Carolina Beach Mural Project or "CBMP", is a non-profit organization that celebrates Carolina Beach aka CB's rich history & culture through Public Art. This cause is near and dear to me as CB is my home. I've seen it go through many transition phases over the last thirty years. The last few years it is really coming of age and progressing. Causes like CBMP are doing amazing work to bring art to the community which is really transforming the image and appeal of CB.

WHAT IS PUBLIC ART?

Public Art represents all mediums of art whose form, function and meaning are created for the general public through a public process. Public art is visually and physically accessible to the public - it is installed or staged in public space or the public realm, usually outside. Public art embodies public or universal concepts rather than commercial, partisan or personal concepts or interests, and it has clear aesthetic qualities in form or theme. Notably, public art is also the direct or indirect product of a public process of creation, procurement, and/or maintenance.

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE MURAL PROGRAM

There is an order of events that the organization has established to stay true to their mission & and maintain fairness for funding Public Art in Carolina Beach.

Secure wall(s)
Landlord signs contract(s)
Committee works with local Historical Society to determines if wall location has any historical significance
Board of Directors and Members vote on a mural theme
Fundraising/ Sponsorship Campaign
PR- subject announced to public
RFP goes out to artists
Wall prep
Committee reviews all submissions and cost quotes
Committee votes on finalist (some edits may be requested)
Artist signs contract
City approvals (if needed)
PR- Artist announced to public
Mural completed
Seal mural with acrylic varnish/ anti- graffiti
Unveiling party/ fundraiser
Merchandise Sales
Website updated with newest mural
